Overview

Basics

Basics
Relocate and expand the Tahoe XC Lodge, meeting growing outdoor recreation/education demand and improving the managed trailhead for an extensive network of skiing/hiking/biking trails. The new lodge is an adaptive reuse of a 1930s home with an addition; retaining the welcoming charm of the original house and upgrading the entire facility to a net zero, all electric structure. The project is the climate adaptation strategy for Tahoe XC, encouraging year-round connections between community members and nature. Educational and recreational opportunities abound on a site next to the high school and with ADA accessible grades which will serve all members of our community.

Threshold Categories

  • Upgrade the user experience and expand to serve enviromental education and human powered outdoor recreation. Provide managed access to public lands for all users that reduces barriers and improves user behavior to others and the environment.
  • Locating the new facility next to the high school allows shared parking, which reduces overall coverage needs by 1/3. The site currently exhibits degraded dirt roads and trails; post project all coverage will discharge to approved treatment systems.
  • Locating the new facility adjacent to the high school converts drive trips to walk trips for middle and high school users. Placement of EV charging stations, along with solar panels and geothermal heat, meets standards for GHG reduction.

Notes

Notes
03/26/2025 12:19 PM Sue Rae Irelan The Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association is a 501c3 recreation provider, in partnership with the TCPUD for 25 years. Tahoe XC provides a full service nordic skiing center in the winter and year-round supported access to trails on TCPUD, California Tahoe Conservancy, California State Parks, and USDA Forest Service lands. TCCSEA's mission is to provide affordable access to outdoor education and year-round recreation, building enduring connections between community and nature. The non-profit model compliments TCPUD's public recreation responsibilities by accessing private and grant opportunities not available to a local government. This model allows TCCSEA to support low and no cost youth programs and low and no cost programs for seniors.
