Overview

Basics

Basics
This project aims to implement understory burning at Spooner Lake and Backcountry State Park and Van Sickle Bi-state Park. Understory burning improves forest health and resilience, reduces wildfire hazard, and improves wildlife habitat. Some of the project area will be a reburn from 10 years ago, while other project areas will see the first reintroduction of beneficial fire in over 100 years. These forests historically burned every 5-20 years, and are long overdue for understory burning.
