03/24/2022 11:26 AM | Beth Vollmer | The project will serve local residents and recreational visitors to the Fallen Leaf Lake area and utility providers (sewer and power), while also providing the USFS access to conduct forestry operations and fire protection. Fallen Leaf Road is a multiuse road that is impacted by 1) poor geometric design and 2) rapidly deteriorating road surface quality due to extreme weather conditions which has created a hazardous road surface for driving and bicycle riding. The road is a narrow one lane road with unimproved pullouts and parking areas in a mountainous area. The road surface is deteriorating due to harsh winter conditions and seasonal freeze/thaw. This results in pavement defects such as cracking, rutting and depressions that create hazards to users of the roadway. Poor drainage causes the roadway to flood. Unpaved pullouts produce seasonal rutting and tracking of material onto the roadway. Improvements will address water quality through better conveyance systems, improved road surface, and improved pullouts. |
