Overview

Basics

Basics
The project addresses water quality and flooding issues in the Lower Bijou Park Creek area (Phase 1), which discharged runoff from roadways, commercial and residential area directly into the Ski Run Marina. The area is subject to historic flooding due to undersized and deteriorating infrastructure in this lower watershed area. The project includes restoration of SEZ and associated water quality improvements to reduce sediment and nutrients loads in urban runoff discharged to Lake Tahoe.

04/21/2021 12:55 PM Jason Burke Work upstream of this site on a watershed-scale restoration project is listed under EIP #01.01.01.018 for the Upper Bijou Park Creek Upper Bijou Park Creek Restoration Project (https://eip.laketahoeinfo.org/Project/FactSheet/01.01.01.0184). At the time improvements for this specific site in the lower watershed were completed in 2020, the watershed-scale planning effort was still ongoing.
07/22/2016 2:00 PM Jason Burke The project will provide additional benefits that are not currently tracked in this tool (but are requirements for funding sources that prioritize multi-benefit projects and use of stormwater as a resource). As noted in the project description included in the Tahoe Sierra Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (Tahoe Sierra IRWM), the project includes the following additional benefits:
- Flood Management (decreased flood risk attained by using distributed infiltration systems to reduce runoff rates and volumes at the source),
- Water Supply (augmentation of groundwater through increased infiltration of dry weather and wet weather flows)
- Water Quality (increased infiltration to provide runoff treatment, source controls and re-establishing natural drainage hydrology impacted by urban development and hydromodification).
