Overview

Basics

Basics
This project will restore Lahontan cutthroat trout (LCT) habitat in the Upper Truckee River and facilitate natural range expansion of the existing LCT population by manually removing non-native trout. Upon completion, this project will provide 17.5 miles of stream and 100 lake acres for this federally threatened species and be the largest interconnected habitat for LCT in the Sierra's. With partner funding, LTBMU staff began implementation of a new method in 2023 to improve effectiveness and efficiency of treatment methods in the project area.

01/08/2024 10:20 AM Sarah Muskopf Updated description and new funding sources (CDFW and FWS).
01/12/2022 4:35 PM Sarah Muskopf Implementation actions were interrupted by Caldor fire. Implementation success for this project requires that the same distance of stream or waterbody is treated annually until all non-desirable species have been eradicated. Depending on the complexity of the habitat, this could take multiple years. Therefore, in many years, accomplishments reflect annual efforts on the same section of stream or lake (pending the amount of funding and targets).
01/06/2021 5:44 PM Sarah Muskopf No implementation activities occurred in 2020 due to Covid restrictions.
